Effective December 31, 2020, Henry Madden Library will end its subscription to EndNote citation management software, but will continue to provide support for EndNote users, as well as introduce new services related to citation management platform Zotero. The library has provided campus access to EndNote for over ten years, but during this time other software has developed, at a lesser cost, with similar capabilities.
One such platform is Zotero, a free tool that offers many similar features to EndNote, and integrates with library databases, OneSearch, and Google Scholar. Zotero also offers users the ability to save and organize citations for websites and other online resources. Starting in Fall 2019, librarians have been offering workshops for Zotero monthly. The Fall 2020 workshop calendar is available here; the next Zotero workshop is scheduled for November 18, from 5- 6:15 pm. Faculty and student groups can also request customized workshops for their courses/cohorts, where librarians will walk users through set up, use, and output in the style specific to the discipline. For more information on installing and using Zotero, please see the library Zotero guide.
The library will continue to provide EndNote support, including customizing and using EndNote. However, workshops and courses will no longer be offered in EndNote starting January 2021. Users who have downloaded EndNote desktop will not lose access to that version of the software or their EndNote library. The library is encouraging all users who have downloaded EndNote to make sure they have installed the current version of EndNote, the recently released EndNote 20, before the end of the campus license on December 31, 2020. EndNote 20 is available for installation from the campus Technology Services Help Center at http://fresnostate.edu/help/. For installation/update help, please see this guide, or contact email@example.com.
