Library lactation room with chair and wall art featuring children's literature

The Henry Madden Library now offers a Lactation Room for students, staff and faculty that are nursing. Lactation rooms are private and comfortable rooms where mothers can tend to their lactation needs.

The new lactation room is on the 3rd floor, South Wing of the Henry Madden Library and includes a comfortable chair, access to electricity, tables for lactation pumps, and a refrigerator with ice packs.

In order to gain access to the new lactation room, nursing mothers can apply through Human Resources and allow 24 hours for processing. While applications are in process, nursing mothers may request temporary access to the lactation room at the Library Circulation Desk.

While in use, the lactation room will be locked with one occupant allowed at a time. Authorized staff will also have access to the lactation room for sanitary and security reasons.

Pregnant and nursing mothers are protected under Title IX and The Breastfeeding Coalition. This means that pregnant or nursing mothers cannot face discrimination at school or in the workplace. Mothers are welcomed to use the lactation rooms between Fresno State programs, activities, or classes without facing penalties. Due to security reasons, the refrigerator may not be used for milk storage.
